Laser Cutting

Flat Sheet Laser Cutting

3 kW fiber laser cutting of flat sheet up to 12 mm mild steel and 6 mm stainless, with ±0.05 mm tolerance on a 1500 × 3000 mm bed.

Flat Sheet Laser Cutting — Nevatronix Laser

Nevatronix Laser’s flat sheet cutting cell is designed around the production realities of contract manufacturing: short setup, tight repeatability across long runs, and consistent edge quality across material grades. This page documents what the cell can do, how we hold tolerance, and the typical lead time from quote to first article.

Materials and capacity

The cell handles every common contract-manufacturing grade plus several less-common ones. The table below summarizes the capability envelope.

Quality and documentation

Every production lot ships with a first-article inspection report. PPAP (level 1 through 4) is available for regulated industries — currently in use across our financial technology and aerospace prototyping customer base. CMM inspection of critical features is performed in-house and on request.

Typical use cases

Flat sheet laser cutting is the entry point for most assembly-bound parts: chassis, enclosures, brackets, panels. Many parts continue from this cell to our sheet metal forming line for bending, welding, and finish — Nevatronix Laser and Nevatronix Sheet Metal are co-located, eliminating freight delays between operations.

Frequently asked questions

What is the maximum sheet size you can cut?
Our standard fiber laser bed accommodates flat sheet up to 1500 × 3000 mm (60 × 120 in). For larger formats we offer drop-and-tab nesting and downstream welding to combine pieces.
What thickness of stainless steel can your laser cut?
We cut stainless steel up to 6 mm with our 3 kW fiber laser, using nitrogen assist for a clean weld-ready edge. Cut quality stays in ISO 9013 range 2 across the full thickness envelope on stainless — the lower power produces a cleaner cut on thinner gauge stock at the cost of top-end thickness.
What tolerance can I expect on a typical flat sheet part?
Position tolerance is ±0.05 mm on parts up to 1 m in any dimension. Profile tolerance is also ±0.05 mm. We hold tighter tolerances (±0.025 mm) on critical features upon request and document them on the inspection report.
Do you offer first-article inspection and PPAP?
Yes. First-article inspection (FAI) reports are included on all production orders. Full PPAP (level 1–4) is available on request and is standard for automotive and aerospace customers.
How quickly can you turn around a prototype?
48–72 hours for parts up to 5 mm thick and 500 × 500 mm in standard materials, assuming files are quote-ready (DXF or STEP). Same-day turn is occasionally possible for true emergencies — call ahead.
Can you laser cut coated or painted sheet without damaging the finish?
Yes. We use protective film handling and nitrogen assist gas to preserve coated finishes on the cut side. We can also cut from the unpainted side when geometry allows, eliminating any thermal effect on the cosmetic face.
